Taking the Mystery Out of Paid Surveys

As you may know any online work from home opportunity can present problems for the unwary. There is nothing dangerous here, you just need to beware of the "get rich quick" mentality that some websites will try to take advantage of.

In general, online market research companies work with two types of products. The first is a brand new product or service that the public has never heard about or used. The second and more common type is existing products and services that are being redeveloped.

What happens after the product is developed, or even during an earlier stage of development is that a company will bring their product or service to a market research company and pay them to set up a survey that will poll certain demographic areas (groups organized by age, gender, income, location or other factors) they feel the product is relevant to. This is where you come in.

By signing up with online survey panels you are agreeing to give your honest opinion about products and services. In exchange for this information the survey companies share part of their revenue with you. Plus the survey companies know that by offering you a reward you are more likely to be honest and also to work with them again in the future. Reliable and consistent panel members are very important to the survey companies.

The best way to become a market research participant is to go online and obtain a list of research panels. A list like this can either cost money or be found for free at various sites on the internet.

After finding a good list of survey sites your next step is to register with them to receive surveys. The key to maximizing your survey opportunities is to be honest, and sign up with as many research panels as you can. Registration will always be free, the research companies are paying you for your opinions, not the other way around. Don't ever register to receive surveys from a company that wants you to pay them.

After registering most companies will send you a confirmation email. Once you confirm you can log into your account and update your profile information with them. This is the information that the survey sites will use to decide which surveys to send to you so make sure it is complete. The more information you give them at this point the better off you'll be when they start sending you surveys.

Now that you've signed up with some market research companies, you will begin to receive emails in your email account that are invitations that notify you of certain surveys or focus groups. A focus group is a survey, but it's given to a group of people either online or in a meeting place, such as a hotel. They are usually controlled by a moderator and about a specific product or service. These types of surveys pay the most, and can last anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours.

And that's pretty much how the paid survey industry works. You find the survey companies that are paying, register with them, take surveys or participate in focus groups and you get paid for your time. It is that easy and really what could be simpler. Well I suppose it would be simpler if they skipped all the registration and survey stuff and just sent you money, but since that's not going to happen this is as simple as it gets.

Good luck and have fun. That's what it's all about.
